Description
Starlink Standard Gen 3 (Version 4) Kit
The Starlink Standard Gen 3 (V4) Kit is SpaceX’s latest residential offering, featuring a sleeker, rectangular phased-array dish, a powerful Wi-Fi 6 Tri-Band router with Ethernet ports for wired connections, and IP67 weather resistance, all designed for fast, low-latency internet for streaming, gaming, and video calls, even in remote areas, with simple self-install and robust mesh support.
The Starlink Standard Gen 3 (Version 4) Kit represents a significant shift in SpaceX’s hardware philosophy, moving away from robotic self-alignment toward a more streamlined, durable, and high-performance design. Often referred to by users as the “V4” or simply “Gen 3 Standard,” this kit is engineered for both permanent residential use and high-mobility scenarios like van-life and overlanding.
The Antenna: Compact and Stationary
Electronically phased array, IP67 rated (dust/waterproof), lighter and more compact than previous versions.
The most striking change in the Gen 3 dish is the removal of the internal motors (actuators) found in previous versions. Instead of a robotic neck, the dish utilizes a detachable kickstand for manual alignment. Users orient the dish via the Starlink app, which provides real-time software-assisted guidance to ensure the electronic phased array is pointing toward the optimal slice of the sky.
Measuring approximately 23.4 x 15 inches, the dish is slightly larger than the Gen 2 model but significantly thinner. This “flat” profile makes it far more portable and easier to store in a vehicle. Despite being stationary, it boasts an improved 110-degree field of view, allowing it to maintain a more consistent lock on the low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation.
Wi-Fi 6 Router
Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), Tri-Band (2.4GHz, 5GHz, 6GHz), 4×4 MU-MIMO, up to 3,200 sq ft coverage, supports up to 235 devices.
The kit’s centerpiece is the upgraded Gen 3 Wi-Fi Router. Unlike its predecessor, which required a separate adapter for wired connections, this router features two built-in latching Ethernet ports. These ports allow for easy integration with third-party mesh systems or hardwired gaming consoles and PCs.
Connectivity
Two built-in Ethernet ports (a major upgrade!), supports mesh nodes.
The router jumps to Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) with a tri-band 4×4 MU-MIMO radio. This provides:
Increased Capacity: Support for up to 235 connected devices.
Greater Range: Coverage up to 297 m² (3,200 sq. ft.).
Lower Latency: Optimized for high-bandwidth tasks like 4K streaming and competitive gaming.
Performance and Power
Typical speeds 25-220 Mbps (download), 5-20 Mbps (upload), low latency (25-60 ms).
Because the Gen 3 dish lacks motors but uses a more powerful antenna array, its power consumption is slightly higher, averaging between 75W and 100W. Users can typically expect download speeds ranging from 100 Mbps to over 220 Mbps, with upload speeds reaching up to 20 Mbps.
Average 75-100W, with an advanced power supply for AC/DC input options.
