Description
MikroTik L009UiGS-RM Gigabit Ethernet Router
The MikroTik L009UiGS-RM is a high-performance Gigabit Ethernet router designed as the modern successor to the legendary RB2011 series. While it retains the iconic red finish and professional utility of its predecessor, the L009 is a ground-up reimagining, offering up to four times the performance through a complete architectural overhaul.
Processing Power and Performance
The most significant upgrade is the move from the older MIPS architecture to a modern Dual-Core ARM CPU (IPQ-5018) running at 800 MHz. This shift provides a massive boost in handling complex tasks like:
Routing and Filtering: Efficiently managing high-bandwidth traffic.
IPsec Hardware Encryption: Ensuring secure VPN tunnels with significantly lower CPU overhead.
Container Support: The ARM architecture allows sysadmins to run lightweight Docker containers directly on the router, enabling services like Pi-hole for network-wide ad-blocking or Home Automation gateways.
With 512 MB of DDR3L RAM (a 4x increase over the RB2011), the L009 easily manages the demands of RouterOS v7, MikroTik’s powerful operating system that comes with a Level 5 License.
Versatile Connectivity & Networking
The L009 provides a flexible array of ports designed for modern high-speed environments:
8x Gigabit Ethernet Ports: All eight ports are now full Gigabit.
2.5G SFP Cage: A standout feature is the SFP slot, which supports both 1.25G and 2.5G fiber modules. This allows for high-speed uplinks that future-proof your network backbone.
USB 3.0 Type-A: A full-sized high-speed port that can be used for LTE modems (failover internet), external storage, or peripheral devices for containerized apps.
Serial Console Port: An RJ45 console port is included for direct, out-of-band management.
Innovative Powering and Thermal Design
The L009 is built for efficiency and reliability. The enclosure is essentially a massive heat sink, allowing for a fanless, silent design that remains cool even under heavy load.
PoE-In (Ether1): Supports 802.3af/at Power over Ethernet, allowing you to power the router via a network switch.
PoE-Out (Ether8): Can provide passive PoE to power another device, such as an access point or security camera, simplifying cabling.
Terminal Block: For mission-critical setups, it includes a 2-pin DC terminal for redundant or industrial power sources (24-56 V).
“Server Room Tetris” Enclosure
The “RM” designation stands for Rackmount, and MikroTik has introduced a “Tetris-style” mounting system. The compact metal chassis is designed so that up to four L009 routers can be mounted side-by-side in a single 1U rack space using the included accessories. This makes it an incredibly space-efficient choice for high-density network labs or branch offices.
